MP Michael Chong announces $17,000 for publisher Porcupine”™s Quill

Wellington-Halton Hills MP Michael Chong recently announced $17,060 in funding for publisher Porcupine’s Quill Inc. of Erin.

The government of Canada provides funding through the Support for Publishers portion of the Canada Book Fund and helps businesses such as Porcupine’s Quill continue to provide Canadian readers with books through its distinguished use of modern printing technology to replicate the quality look and feel of a 19th century letterpress product.

“We are proudly supporting local Canadian publishers that not only enrich our community’s cultural life but also strengthen our rural communities,” said Chong.

“The continued and valued support of the Government of Canada through the Canada Book Fund is particularly critical at this juncture as we struggle with the challenge of monetizing the new digital opportunities for our distinctive Canadian content,” said Tim Inkster, owner and publisher of Porcupine’s Quill.

“Porcupine’s Quill is recognized internationally for its outstanding works, and our government is committed to helping this publisher continue offering a great diversity of Canadian books on the world market,” said Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

Publishers in Canada generate over $2 billion in revenues each year.

Through the Canada Book Fund, the Department of Canadian Heritage provides $36.7 million in funding each year to approximately 300 eligible Canadian book publishers and industry organizations.
